Round 1 is an ongoing collaborative art project I began in 2009 with good friend and former graphic design colleague, Michael Saldarriaga. The project is based on a drawing technique called “Exquisite Corpse.” The style was invented by Surrealists in 1925 and is based on an old parlor game in which players write in turn on a sheet of paper, fold it to conceal part of the writing, and then pass it to the next player for a further contribution.
For this project, only 2 artists are involved. Since each artist only saw a tiny “slice” of the previous panel, neither has any idea what the other is creating. The result is an image greater than the sum of its parts. Odd numbered panels are Michael’s work and the even numbered panels are my own. The first six panels were displayed in a gallery at BC’s ArtsFest in 2009.
The final piece is always evolving and is meant to be viewed from right to left.
In fall of 2010, Michael and I began working on “Round 2″, another Exquisite Corpse project which I will begin sharing on this site when the time is right.
